March 16, 2024 Saturday From Punta Chivato to Santa Rosalia

(posted 03/26/24)
Up at 6 am, to the coffee pot. Underway by 6:45. We did our bible ready while underway. We passed SV Makara as we headed for Santa Rosalia. They were headed for Chivato.
There was very little wind, until we were almost at SR, then we had 20 – 25 knots. We attempted to get into a slip, but failed, so we tied up to the fuel dock. Then got our laundry in and went to the bank and icecream store. back to the boat. We also got our reservations for our bus ride on Tuesday to get to Tijuana!
We checked the weather, and decided to move at 6 pm, after dinner.
It was easy, then off to the tap room for game night. We met Steve from SV SPARTAN PILGRIM finally showers and bed.

We got up early and picked up anchor at 6:45 am. We passed SV Makara as we headed for Santa Rosalia. They were headed for Chivato. We arrived at Santa Rosalia just before noon and tried to dock but the 20+ kt wind made it difficult. After two tries we tied up at the fuel dock. We brought 6 loads of laundry to the laundromat, went to the bank and ice cream store. At six we moved the boat to a slip – winds closer to 6-7 kts.

Game night at Padre Santo Brewery (here in the Marina).

It was a very rough night, the wind came up about midnight, and was more than the prediction. So, I did not get much sleep. We were going to move to Punta Chivato today, but it will have a bunch of wind overnight as well. So, we are thinking about going to Santispac for the night then back to Santa Rosalia for a week at the dock.
I took a nap after writing this, and when I woke up, we checked the weather again, and decided to go to Punta Chivato. There was some wind, but it wasn’t horrible before midnight, then no wind, no waves, it was very quiet. We got some good sleep!

We left playa El Burro heading for Chivato. We motored the whole way. Once we were 3 mi off shore Neil spent a bit of time emptying, refilling, emptying, the holding tank. We are dealing with a bad smell. Neil discovered the problem- plugged vent. Part ordered – will get fixed when we return from Carlsbad. Chivato was windy initially but quieted for the night. We anchored in 13’ of water just south of Punta Santa Inez.

That is a 30 peso tamale (about 17 pesos to the dollar)
Another great view

Brian was back at 0800 to get a measurement for the console above the gangway. Then we kayaked to shore and did some hiking. The prices here for lunch are higher than at Santispac, the hike was more rock climbing than a hike, so probably won’t be back for that either. The kayaking was good.
We have finally figured out what is going on with the holding tank, the vent is plugged at the vent overboard. I have ordered a part, (less than $20) and it will be in Carlsbad when we get there, in the meantime it stinks.

Up in time for the news, then Brian came over to discuss details about the new instruments.
He was gone and we were underway by 10am. We headed out to dump the holding tank, after which we came back in and anchored at Playa el Burro by 3 pm.
We plan to be here two nights, then go to Punta Chivato.

Well, I just noticed that I spelled the name of the bay wrong, it should be Conceptión. Not Conception or Conceptioń.
We are running a load of laundry, then after lunch will go out for a bit with the kayak. This means we are running the generator now.
