Friday December 31, 2021, La Cruz, New Years Eve

We got up and our morning routines. One difference, I took a shower in the forward shower this morning, we have guests coming next week and I want to make sure it works and all the lines get flushed out for clean water etc. Over all a pretty quiet day until 5:30 pm. Which was when Steve and Deny Pepper, and a couple of their friends came over from Paradise Village. We had reservations at the Treehouse restaurant for dinner. We enjoyed the company. By a little after 10 pm, they decided to head back to PV. Traffic, and oh yeah we are all cruisers and our normal bed time is when the sun goes down.

Reneé and I stayed and listened to the second set of music, the first was a single guy on a violin very good music, the second was a cuban band also very good. Around 11 we headed back to the boat and dropped off some stuff and walked out to the breakwater to watch the fireworks around the bay. While there we ran into several people we had met here in the marina. Finally back on the boat by about 12:30. Off to bed.

We were sitting behind the balloons, but it looked like S.S.O.S. which doesn’t look good for next year!
Our entertainment for the first set.
This is Walt and Shelly, Denny and Steve, and Neil and Reneé (back to front, left to right in couples)
we had to get a picture behind the bar in front of the tree

We got up and did our morning routines, bible reading, and the net. Then the guys came to work on the sails again. When they were done George and Helen and their three kids (18-15) came down to go sailing. We went out and saw a couple of whales right out side the marina, and then sailed for an hour out and then back and motored back into our slip then they took us out for dinner at La Cruz Inn.

Sailing with friends

Wednesday December 29, 2021, La Cruz

Up about 7:15, breakfast, the net, and bible reading. Mike is scheduled between 10:30 and 11 am. We will see, I have sent a text About the engine RPM indication. It can be frustrating getting help here in Mexico.

Mike was on the boat in the morning and we went over the issues, one of the guys came down and we got a block and tackle to do the work of the boom vang. We also got our prize for winning third place in the decorations, this was lunch at the Ballena Blanca (White Whale). We went to lunch then came back and checked the weather and finally we sailing!

After that Reneé worked on recovering her emails, and by the time we went to bed she was down to 114,000 emails in her trash!

Our new sails

Tuesday December 28, 2021, La Cruz

Up and about somewhat slow today, breakfast, the net, laundry and waiting for people to come by the boat. Mike about the sails and hardware, no show. Cat about the prize for the decorations, no show. Someone to work on engine RPM indication, no show. A couple for dinner, no show (they were an interesting couple. He is the captain, and she was crew. They were together from South Carolina through the Panama Canal (8 months), then took a break for hurricane season and had been back together for a bit. In any case, her tenant back in Canada moved out unexpectedly, resulting is a loss of income. So, she had to change and found a job as crew in the Bahamas that pays and is very light work. They broke up today, so they did not come over.

Reneé has been dealing with an issue with her email, all the messages disappeared. Her email is 4scheuer@gmail.com and she does almost everything on her iPhone and a bit on her iPad. There was a recent update to the IOS, and we thought perhaps that had something to do with it. So, she called Apple support, and they were no help, pointing out that they don’t help with third party software. Then she called Google support, the difference between the two was significant, with Apple, the support person was on the phone within minutes of starting the call, they did not help (two times) but they were right there and stayed as long as they were making progress. The Google support person was the better part of an hour from starting the call to talking to a human being. They were ready to get off the phone as soon as possible. Oh and yes they blamed Apple. One even told her just install the app and then you can do a recovery from inside the app, and “You got this, I have faith in you”.

We got a text from Steve Pepper asking about New Year’s Eve plans and suggested we get together. So, we walked into town and checked a couple places to figure out where we would go, deciding on the Treehouse. Then we headed back to the boat.

Reneé called Apple back and again was connected to a person within a minute or two, and this person suggested looking in the trash with a non IOS device. We could not see anything in the trash from her iPad or iPhone, but on a pc (yes we have one) and on the Mac we could see the messages in the trash, all 126,034 of them. Yes that is a pretty big number. Somehow, Reneé managed to delete everything, Now she has to figure out how to get them back into their appropriate folders.
At least the day ended on a positive note. Finally off to bed.

Monday December 27, 2021, La Cruz

Up at 7 am. Plans for today are, get the Boom Vang fixed and reinstalled. Get the dinghy wheels mounted correctly. There is the net at 8:30, the Panama Posse call at 9:30 and the Island Packet 445/465 call at 1pm. We are going to try and coordinate with a couple that is part of the Panama Posse, for dinner as well. This is a very full day for us.

Ok, it is 4 pm, the Net and then the Panama Posse call and finally the Zoom for the IP445/465 group (the net was about 30 minutes, the Panama Posse call was about an hour, and the zoom call about 3 hours). The dinghy wheels are done and … no progress on the boom vang. We are going to get together with Patrick and Lisa tomorrow night. So, 5 out of 6 done or scheduled out of the things we wanted to get done today, sounds pretty successful. Now it is time for a walk.
