La Cruz to Paradise Village, April 19, Monday

We got up and had breakfast, listened to the net and debated what to do for the day. Finally decided to go to Paradise Village and get a slip for the duration. We had originally planned to go in on Tuesday, but the list of what has to be done is pretty big, so. Here we are!

We started into the list, taking some of the easy stuff first, like putting covers on instruments and canvas on windows. I adjusted the battery charger and solar controller to keep the batteries at less than 100% while we are gone. We have a list of things we have to do before we leave the boat and a list of things for when we get back. Adjusting the battery charger is on both lists now. I walked to the office and checked us in, then took a water taxi to the Port Captains office to get checked in there as well.

Good news: the bathrooms are very nice, Bad news: they are about a mile (round trip) away. The pool and beach are easily accessed and they have a happy hour at 5 pm, beer is 60 pesos and it is two for one, so about $1.50 per beer.

We walked out to the grocery store, it is a pretty short walk and it is a very upscale store, this area of Nuevo Vallarta is very high end, as some one said, it is more like Redondo Beach. Unfortunately, the prices match the look.

I tweaked something in my neck or back and I am having issues with lifting my right arm as it hurts so much. The symptoms are very similar to what happened about 10 years ago. Then I had chest pain on the left side, my left arm felt like someone was hitting it with a baseball bat, and I had lost sensation in my left thumb and first two fingers. At that time I called the advice nurse and was told VERY calmly to take one aspirin and have someone drive me to the emergency room. When I eventually got to the emergency room, they did not let me sit in the waiting room and escorted me to the back, where I was immediately hooked up to an EKG machine and after a bunch of other stuff, they took x-rays of my neck (as I told them from the beginning, I thought it was a pinched nerve in my neck). Finally after several hours in the ER and a pretty big bill, they told me that they thought it was a pinched nerve in my neck. They even showed me on the Xray where it was, then they showed me a nerve map of the human body which showed that the symptoms for a particular nerve in the neck between two of the vertebrae were chest pain on the left side, pain in the upper left arm, and loss of sensation in the thumb and first two fingers. I remember that the nerve between the vertebrae either above or below that spot had similar symptoms, except it was on the right side.  Anyway, I took some Advil and went to bed.

Yelapa to La Cruz, April 18, Sunday

We woke up around 8 am, had coffee and breakfast and discussed plans. Overnight we heard the water pump a couple of times, so we turned it off. I checked this morning, and yes the water heater is leaking again. We have decided that we will put things away this morning and head across to La Cruz and spend two nights in the anchorage, then head to Paradise Village.

No pictures today

Yelapa, April 17, Saturday

We woke up after another rolly night. It is kinda cool this morning. Unlike most of the time we have been this far south. We listened to the net, had breakfast and got it together and went ashore.

To go ashore we called Edgar on channel 10 on the VHF radio and waited for him to come get us. After he picked us up, we went to another boat, S/V Toccata and Marilyn and Sherry joined us, and as it turned out they too were planning to do the hike to the waterfall, so when we got ashore we set out for the waterfall. Pictures below, it was a fairly long hike and took us until around 12:30 or 1 pm to get back to town for lunch. After lunch Reneé and I went back to the boat and the two ladies hiked to the other water fall and checked out the town. We took naps, and then ran the generator for an hour or so while we floated behind the boat. When we had hot water, we took showers and got dressed for dinner at the gathering of cruisers at the Yacht Club. “The Yelapa Yatch Club” (Yes, that is how they spell it here. Dinner was very good, and the entertainment was provided by the violinist that we have heard before here.  Finally about 9:30 or so, we called it a night and went back to the dock and called Edgar for a ride. This time there was about 11 of us on board the water taxi back to the boats.

Another rolly night.

Puerto Vallarta to Yelapa, April 16, Friday

Up at 7 am, breakfast listen to the net, bible reading and running the water maker to top of the water tank. I checked the oil and discovered a mess, a bottle of oil had leaked and there was a lot of oil on the floor of the engine room. I spent the time while Reneé was walking over to check us out cleaning the mess up. In any case we got out of the marina by about 1130 and motored across to Yelapa. I am really looking forward to new sails in the fall. Edgar was the guy we were supposed to contact to get a mooring ball, but Richard showed up quite a ways out, and said he worked with Edgar and we should just go with him, but we had already attempted to call Edgar. Shortly after this, Edgar got back to us and asked us to tell Richard that we were with Edgar and he came out and got us on a mooring ball. This is a very cute little town!

We put our swim suits on and floated behind the boat for a bit.

Our time for sailing is quickly coming to an end for this season. We are going to pull into Paradise Village on Tuesday, and that will be it. The schedule for us will be all about getting the boat ready to leave for the summer. We will have to clean the boat, get the dehumidifier running to make sure it works, pack for our trip, get rid of the Gasoline for the outboard, flush the outboard with water, pump out the holding tank and fill with water and then pump out again. (Several times) then replace the vent filter on the holding tank. We will have to get rid of the extra food as well.

Puerto Vallarta , April 15, Thursday

We had to go back downtown to pick up the stuff we bought the day before at Oscar’s, but we started with walking around and enjoying the sights.  We walked the pier at Playa Los Muertos.  We had lunch at the Blue Shrimp. Then got our Tequila and got an Uber back to Zaragoza (the boat parts store) and bought some zincs and a boat brush. Walked back to the boat, changed and went to the pool and hung out for a couple of hours. Dinner at Victor’s which was about 1/3 of the way to the office. They started dinner off with a shot of Tequila and ended it with after dinner drinks (on the house).

After dinner we watched a Western called Albuquerque from about 1948.
