May 13th, 2025 Tuesday (San Carlos Marina Seca ‘DRY’)

Published 05/24/2025
Up at 0600. Breakfast and walk over to the boat. I have found someone from Poland a cruiser with his wife and two kids ages 6 and 8 to give the gas to. So, it is gone. They go into the water today.
The crane guy (not with the crane) is arriving about 9:15 to start prepping the mast for removal. It is almost 9 am now, so I will be walking to the office to get him/them shortly.
I have reviewed my list on preparing the boat to leave it on the hard for several months (or longer) we are down to just a few items. For the most part we could say we are ready.
The local sewage company has started releasing treated water to the low area behind the Marina Seca (dry storage) this means a bunch of things not least of which is mosquitoes and flys. I made the mistake of not closing the screens for a while yesterday. I have just about gotten rid of the flys that came in.
Carlos and son showed up and by 10:30, I had all the wires disconnected at the base of the mast and they were hard at work on deck with shrouds and stays (the cables that hold the mast vertical).
By mid afternoon the mast was out. It wasn’t until almost 6 pm that the plate was off.
Back to the air bnb, dinner and bed.

While we were at San Carlos, we got word of an issue at Puerto Peñasco. An important note, no one was hurt!
Apparently the crane wheel fell off as they were lifting a shrimp boat, when the crane fell, it crushed the engine. Salvador who owns the yard, said it would be back in service in 2 weeks or so.

You can see some of the damage to the keel here.
What our boat looks like out of the water
The mast is out and now we have to get the plate off the boat
The plate is loose!
