June 10, 2020 Puerto Peñasco; on the hard

We woke up to the sound of scraping, they were starting the process of cleaning the bottom of the boat. Eventually we got up and had breakfast followed by devotions. Then a rough plan for the day.

We communicated with the people who have the apartment we are renting and got checked in. VERY nice, 3 blocks from the yard, AC, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. A kitchen and a a garage (not that we need that).

We have found some work that we need to do on the bottom of the boat (cleaning). I think I found why the anchor wash down pump does not always work (barnacles). We got started taking things off the boat. There is a long list of things we have to do to leave the boat here on the hard. The sails have to come down, get folded and put inside. The water maker has to get pickled (that takes shore power) the holding tank has to get pumped out, and stuff has to come off the boat. I am really glad we have a wagon to haul stuff between the boat and the apartment. We plan to rent a car to get stuff to the border and then rent another car and take stuff to Kansas where the truck and trailer are.

Renee’ has been having issues with her shoulder for about a week now. The last time it was like this, there was a calcium deposit in the shoulder joint, and after x-rays the doctor grabbed her arm and swung it up. While this “fixed” the problem it was a horrible bed side manner. She will be going to a doctor here tomorrow.

We do have room for guests, if anyone is interested in visiting and spending a week or so with us, drop us a line and we will coordinate. What you have to do/have is you need a passport and will need to be able to get to where we are when you are going to be down. When we know what time frame you are thinking about we can let you know where we expect to be so that you can make your travel arrangements.

Bow Thruster
This is the pickup for the air conditioning sea water pump
There are six through hulls here, the two big ones are for the cockpit drains, then there is the engine and generator sea supply, a sink drain and finally the drain from the refrigerator and freezer
The device on the right side of the picture is the depth sounder, the one to the left is the plug for the speed probe. I have pulled the speed probe inside the boat and just have the plug out, that way there is less chance for damage to it.
Once they haul the boat out of the water with the big crane, they move it to the little set of wheels so they can maneuver the boat where they want it.
Salvador said we could go drive it around town if we wanted, but it only goes about a mile an hour, so we elected to walk!
These are the heat exchangers for the refrigerator and the freezer. You can see they have a pretty significant build up of marine growth.

  1. WOW interesting marine growth on the heat exchanger ports. Does the yard have any good suggestions for reducing the problem, besides a snorkel & wire brush.

    1. We have been getting the bottom cleaned about once a month. I have had some suggestions like every couple of weeks clean the heat exchangers. Which is what I am planning on doing next year.
BTW the heat exchangers are not ports, what you see is the heat exchange surface area.
