We woke up at about 6AM. The anchorage had developed significant swells. The boat was rocking probably 45 degrees. Renee’ had left the stove locked in place (It swivels with the racking of the boat to maintain a level surface to cook on), and as a result, the pans that were left on it fell off with a crash. So much for sleeping in just a bit. She got up and made coffee and picked up the pots and pans. I got up shortly after that, and we were underway by a 7 am.
We wound up motoring all day, at one point the wind got up to about 20 knots (that lasted about 20 minutes) then back to less than 10 knots. All the wind today was within about 15 degrees of straight ahead. Which means we would have had to do some serious tacking to be able to use it, and we were in a channel, so with the wind being light and it being on the nose, we just motored. We ran the water maker and topped off the tank. Then we dumped the holding tank. It took longer to run the water maker than we expected 3.5 hours. That is two days use and one load of laundry.
The only thing really interesting that we saw today was a place where it was very calm coming out of Bahia San Francisquito and then it looked like waves breaking on the flat water. The expected depth there, based on our charts (both the chart plotter and Navionics on the iPad) was about 200 feet.
We arrived in Puerto Don Juan at about 3 pm. This is a “hurricane hole” it is surrounded by land, with only one small window to the north that looks out on Bahia Los Angeles. There is land across the bottom of this window, but it is not very tall. The entrance makes a turn as it comes in, so effectively there is land all the way around. A downside to this (as reported in the books) in the summer time, there is no breeze here and it gets very hot.
There is another boat here, we can see that there are two guys on board and as we were coming in one of them was rowing a dinghy across this little bay.
We do have room for guests, if anyone is interested in visiting and spending a week or so with us, drop us a line and we will coordinate. What you have to do/have is you need a sport and will need to be able to get to where we are when you are going to be down. When we know what time frame you are thinking about we can let you know where we expect to be so that you can make your travel arrangements.
