April 10 2024 Wednesday Santa Rosalía, Neil in Carlsbad, CA.

I did some running around and checking through the packages that had been delivered, figured out the toilet seat was the wrong size, so arranged to send it back and worked on finding the correct seat. Eventually ordered it. Got some other things bought and then in the evening, got together with friends Ken, Laurel, Bob and Sharlene for dinner and chatting.

Reneé made an early trip to the Green grocery store (Moreno Super del Juanito) to buy tamales.
She made one more trip to Pemex to fill the diesel tanks that stay on deck (on the railing).
After a disappointing dinner at the brewery (Padre Santo – Hamburger) accompanied by a great beer (chocolate stout) she went for a walk around the harbor on the breakwater wall with Pat and Jim.

In California with some of our friends
Reneé joined us in spirit as did some other friends

April 9 2024 Tuesday Santa Rosalía, Neil flying to Tijuana

(posted 04/17/24)

I (Neil) took the bus at 10:30 to Loreto, 2.5 hours of bus ride. Two miles short of the bus depot, the but stopped for tire work, nothing special, just a half hour delay. Then at the bus station I caught a cab to the airport. I was there about 11:30 for a 2:30 flight. The instructions were to be there 2 hours early. Of course, I was in line with about 50 people, and there was no one at the desk. Eventually, I was checked in and waiting to board. This airport is small, very small, as in they had seating by groups not gates! When we boarded, we walked out on the tarmac and walked up stairs at both ends of the plane (about 175 people). In Tijuana, I timed getting up from the seat on the plane to sitting in that
Bob & Sharlene’s car in California, 42 minutes. That includes customs and crossing the border! It was about 10 hours from leaving the boat to being at their house.

Reneé started the project of filling the fuel tank. It took 10 Jerry cans to fill the tank. She got some help from Roberto on SV Walkabout and Vidal, a marina employee.

No pictues again

April 7 2024 Sunday Santa Rosalía

(posted 04/17/24)
We slept in until about 0730. I was up first, and started the coffee. Then closed the canvas curtain over the hatch. It’s been relatively warm (mid 60’s overnight) but it was mid 50’s last night. Then I turned on the heater. Another of the advantages of being in a marina, shore power.
After watching the sermon from North Coast church, we asked again, and got the water pump turned on and ran the water maker to top off the tank. We have a pretty big tank, 260 gallons, and we are fairly conservative about using water, we use about 13.7 gallons per day. For calculations, I assume 15 gallons per day, so we can go about 15 days between filling the tank.
After filling the tank, we took naps, then had Pat and Jim from MV Despedida over for dinner.

No pictures for today.

April 6 2024 Saturday Santa Rosalía

(posted 04/17/24)
Up at 6, morning routines. Reneé tried to go to the office to check us in, as she forgot to do it yesterday. Cleaned up the boat and got rid of the stuff from the new electronics, lots of boxes and packing material and excess wire etc. We still have a few things to get back to the states to sell. We have a refrigeration tech coming to the boat today, so we cleaned out and made preparations for him to have access to what he needs to be able to get at. One advantage of being in a marina, they have dumpsters.
We went to the store, and discovered a festival in progress, live music, food and beverages.
When we got back to the boat, they had a delivery of water. We asked and they turned on the pump, so I could run the water maker for a couple of hours.
Then showers and bed.

As marinas go, this one is pretty small only one dock
The second festival going on in town today.
