Up at 0600, morning routines and after breakfast Reneé went to the bank and the sunshade panels for the canopy came back and we installed them. Then more work in preperation for flying out on Tuesday.
Reneé checked through the groceries on board and figured out what we needed. Weo had 4 eggs on board, but they were bad. Oh well, we have not had to toss very much food this season.
So, off to the store and lunch. A small taco stand near the grocery store. Then a walk to the pharmacy and ice cream. Much better than what we had in Tequila.

So this will be a bit about Mexican Politics. This Sunday is the BIG election. This is from the BBC article that is linked below:
“The run-up to the vote, in which a new president as well as members of the legislature, nine governors and almost 20,000 local officials will be chosen, has been the most violent in recent history.
More than 20 candidates have been killed and hundreds more have been threatened.”

Because of the election there will be no alcohol sold in Mexico between Midnight tonight and 0001 Monday morning after the election on Sunday.

We watched a movie Swept Away from 1972, in Italian with subtitles, a pretty good movie. Then bed at about 11 pm.

Breakfast in a restaurant with room for over 100 perhaps 200. It was just us and the staff. We got a taxi to the bus station, 60 pesos. Then two bus rides back to Nuevo Nayarit and a collectivo ride back to the boat. Once on the boat we relaxed for a bit, then off to the potluck. Reneé had cookies that were a huge hit (Peanut butter, chocolate chip). Then showers and bed.

We changed hotels, from in town to a distillery (Cofradia) and all the rooms looked like Tequila barrels. The owners of this property got in 1212 as in 812 years ago. They didn’t start commercial Tequila bottling until 1992.
The cab fare was 80 pesos, (about 3 kilometers) after we were checked in we walked to lunch (700 meters) then took a taxi back @ 100 pesos.
After lunch we had a tour of the distillery and tequila tasting at the end. The tour was very good, this was the 3rd tour and probably the best.
We took a nap then went to the pool. As we were leaving another couple showed up. I don’t speak Spanish and they didn’t speak English. Oh well.
We went to dinner at this location. A huge venue with exceptional food. We were almost the only people there. There was one other table of 4. They could have been staff having a meeting.
This morning we walked to a restaurant just 2 blocks away. Patio Mayahua. We rested at the hotel until it was time to take a cab to the Barrel Hotel (Matices). After checking in we walked 700 m to lunch…very good! I had a ceviche and a shrimp taco. Neil had shrimp fajitas.

We took a cab back to the Hotel. Afternoon schedule:
Tour, tasting, swim, fabulous dinner.

We split the appetizer and the main course. The service was excellent!

145 pesos for the appitizer, 330 pesos for the main course, and 48 pesos apiece for mineral watter. 571 pesos for dinner or $33.61, kind of on the expensive side for one meal but as I said this was about the nicest place we have eaten in Mexico.
We have been eating too much this week.
But clearly this was the best meal of the week.
Oh, BTW it was effectively just us.

Breakfast across the street from hotel – instant coffee but interesting food – Neil had burritos de tinga and I had mollete con carne. Next a distillery tour at La Tequileño. Then we went to the Tequila museum. Next came lunch on the plaza. We then did a Jose Cuervo (La Rojena) tour. Neil tasted and Reneé found an agave beer at a stand in the plaza. On the way back to our hotel we bought ice cream which we both agreed was not very good. We rested before dinner then walked to El Real Marinero and had chicken fajitas. It’s a good thing we’re walking so much because we are eating too much!

Again there was a political rally in the square.

We were sad to see that the famous bar, La Capilla, (Oldest bar in Tequila, supposedly one of the top bars in the world) was closed on Tuesdays…another day perhaps.

Up at 0600 morning routines, then off to the bus stop. The bus (collectivo – small van) got us close then we walked a couple of blocks. Somewhere in here I realized I had left my full cup of coffee on the boat, bummer! The ride to Guadalajara was uneventful, smooth and comfortable. A newer bus, with good AC. Then we had about a half hour wait for the bus to Tequila, smaller, older not as comfortable but still pretty good.
We got to Tequila and walked to our hotel. About a half mile.
Pretty nice, but interesting water system. The toilet seat was warm, because the water was hot in the tank. When we took a shower, the water was hot or hotter, cold was not an option.
While there was a pool, it was not clean.
We walked into town for dinner. Very nice. Reneé had seafood spaghetti, I had coconut shrimp with an Habanero Mango sauce.
To drink we had an imperial stout from Minerva a Mexican craft brewery.

There was a political rally in progress. Which dominated the square. Then back to our room and bed. There were several “train whistles” overnight.
This town appeared to have more money than most of the places in Mexico we have seen.
Nicer, cleaner, better paint and stucco. It’s an old town, 494 years.
