April 5 2024 Friday Punta Chivato to Santa Rosalía

(posted 04/06/24)
Up at 6, morning routines, then up anchor and underway by 0645. It was not a good night for sleep for Reneé, a pelican (very large) decided our swim step was a great perch for him. Reneé was up several times to chase him off, at least once he got up on deck and spread his wings (at least a 5 foot wingspan). She blocked his access from the swim step and finally got some sleep. In the morning we found the stuff he left behind. I washed it off with our anchor wash down hose, (saltwater).
We motored up and figured out that some of the values on the instruments “blink” it turns out that our speed sensor is the culprit, and since we updated everything else it is not “really” compatible, even though it sort of works. The new sensor is about $400. Easy to install, but more money. Wind speed was up in the high teens and we were not looking forward to trying to get into a slip. As we were approaching the marina, we checked the weather and while it was supposed to be pretty windy, there was a predicted drop in wind from about 1 to 3 pm. We arrived at 1, the wind was down to about 8 knots (from about 22), and we backed all the way down and into slip 1, probably the hardest slip to back into in the marina. Once we were in the marina, we got shore power on and found out NO water available, so we ordered some drinking water, and gave up on the idea of washing the boat (perhaps a sponge bath?). Dinner was Chinese at the top of the hill, after a stop at tap room for a game of Qwirkle. We chatted with Ralph from SV Amnesty. Laundry was easy, a lady came to the marine and picked it up and then dropped it off. Price was lower than the laundry at the top of town, and cheaper than using the machines here in the marina. (Pretty much a no brainer as to how to get laundry done).

April 4 2024 Thursday Playa Santispac to Punta Chivato

Up at 6, morning routines, then up anchor and underway by about 0915. This was our first day with the new electronics, sort of a shake down to see how they work and what (if any) problems we might find.
Good news, in general everything works well! We are still learning how to get the display to look like we want it too. The 9” chartplotter above the gangway is
VERY nice! See the pictures below. The passage was pretty uneventful and we arrived early enough to float. While floating a couple from a large power boat (MV Mola Mola, which is a kind of Sun Fish) Mitch and Pam (we think, as we were floating at the time). Then dinner, showers and bed.

Up at 6, morning routine. It was a pretty windy night, and morning.
Then a couple of phone calls, and Brian came over about 9 am. He installed the last chart plotter. Then we spent a couple hours going over how to use it. He was done a little after noon. I then spent an hour or so working on the rebate for all the new stuff.
Mid afternoon, Lisa and Patrick from SV Soulmate, a catamaran came over for games and laughs. By the time they arrived, the wind was significantly reduced. They left at about dusk. We ran the generator to heat the water for showers had dinner then read and bed.

Up at 6 and get our routine done, then I worked on the refrigeration again, Reneé went for a walk on the beach with Lisa from SV Solmate, and I remembered to charge the start battery, still don’t know why if did not charge before.
I spent a couple of hours on the help line with the refrigeration people, and ordered a spare compressor.
Then I got a call from Bob. He and his wife Sharlene were supposed to spend a week on our boat starting next Tuesday, but …. Things happen and they won’t be coming.

April 1. 2024 Monday Playa Santispac

(posted 04/06/24)
Up at 6 like normal and our daily routine. Brian and Ben did not come to the boat today, Ben is flying to Seattle today for another job. Brian is working on the wood and will be back on Wednesday. I worked on figuring out what is going on with the refrigerator, the help line is in Maryland, and they take that day off on Monday following Easter. So, not a lot of progress. All the stuff in the settee got put back, all the stuff in the aft head got put away. Etc. etc. The boat is mostly back together. YEAH!!
