April 15 2024 Monday Santispac

(posted 04/17/24)
Up and morning routines, (Reneé listens to the news before breakfast, I review Facebook and play on my table for a bit. Then Breakfast, followed by reading the Bible Monday through
Saturday, on Sunday we watch a sermon via the internet). Then figure out what the plan is for the rest of the day.
Today, we replaced the overhead lamps in the salon and galley. Brian came by and fixed the issue with the 9” chart plotter above the gangway. I also put in brass threads for some panel screws. The wood threads had stripped out from too frequently being used. While Brian was here we mapped out the rest of the changes to the electronics.
– [ ] A new speed probe and the associated wiring
– [ ] A new Micro SD card reader for the master chart plotter
– [ ] A new short backbone cable for the network
We also planned out the work for tomorrow:
– [ ] Install the Loud Hailer
– [ ] Install the Starlink antenna and run the wire

April 14 2024 Sunday Santa Rosalía to Santispac

Up and morning routines. Then get ready to get underway. We sold one of the old chart plotters to Jeremy.
Jim and Pat on M/V Despedida were going to take the chart plotters and radar to San Carlos, butt things didn’t work out timing wise, so we have one chart plotter and the radar on board.
Then underway by 0915. Headed to Punta Chivato. Almost no wind.
Monday we will be in Santispac, this is to get the Starlink mounted, and adjust the gangway chart plotter.
After that we can get back to cruising.
We changed our minds, and anchored at Santispac tonight. We dropped anchor at about 5:15 pm. So, 8 hours to get here.
After dinner we defrosted the freezer. We will see how that works.

April 13 2024 Saturday Santa Rosalía

After our morning routines, we discussed running the water maker. Reneé walked up and checked on when the water would be turned on. The answer was “we don’t know, we are almost out, and don’t know when the next delivery will be”. So, we decided to go get water, this is a first for us. As it turned out we got some help from another cruiser, then bought another jug, and moved some of it in the cart. It’s past the Ley (grocery store) so about 1.5 miles uphill to the water store. Water quality was very good (8 ppm). We put in 45 gallons to top off the tank.
We are ready to go, full water, full fuel, full refrigerator/freezer.
The refrigerator repair didn’t happen, and we need to defrost the freezer. But everything is working fairly well.
The toilet seat that broke the hinge has been replaced, the holding tank vent filter has been replaced.

April 12 2024 Friday Santa Rosalía, Neil flying back to the boat

(posted 04/17/24)

At Bob and Sharlene’s, we got up and around as normal, then out the door by 10 AM. Bought car insurance before crossing the border and dropping me at the airport. Then I got checked in and had lunch. When I checked in they did not know what gate I would be at, but eventually it showed up on the board and then I had to wait as there was a 30 minute delay. Finally in my seat and we took off. BTW, Bob and Sharlene were back home an hour before I got on the plane! When we landed in Loreto, we walked to the baggage claim area, everything had to go through the X-ray machine, even carry on stuff. Then a cab ride to the bus station and a couple of hour wait for the bus.
Back on the boat and sleeping in my own bed again!

Reneé walked to Ley to buy mineral water. Unfortunately they didn’t have the brand of choice (Penefiel). She ended up buying Topo Chico at a little shop.
She made carnitas so she could make Saturday’s dinner and freeze some for later. Another stout and another walk around the harbor.

Getting ready to fly in Tijuana and this is the sign that greeted me at the gate. A huge difference between US and Mexican Air travel, they now how to unload and load a plane! The flight was delayed by 30 minutes, it arrived at about 1430 and unloaded the passengers and crew, got cleaned and loaded the crew and passengers for my flight and we pushed back on schedule for the delayed time!

April 11 2024 Thursday Santa Rosalía, Neil in Carlsbad, CA.

I finished up my shopping, I got screws for the lights that I want to replace, a drill bit I needed for a project, Zincs for the shaft, a clip for my swim fins (almost $30!!!) and then packed my suitcase.

Reneé did some cleaning on the boat, floors and dusting. She then did a beer run…Tecate was on sale at the little market by the marina.
She made a casserole with lots of cheese since Neil wasn’t aboard. After dinner she again went for a walk around the harbor with Pat and Jim (Despedida).
