May 9th, 2025 Friday (San Carlos marina)

Up at 6:30 or so. Breakfast and get ready for the day. Kevin came over at 8 am and we got the mainsail down, folded and put away. I worked on washing the bilges out and Salvadore came down and worked on the speakers for the arch (they work now!!!) we found out that the spare fan we have been hauling around (that I bought at a swap meet) was no good. Oh well. The only thing he wasn’t able to fix today was the GPS for the VHF radio. It will be one of the those things….
We looked at options for getting all our stuff to the truck. The bus is a 10 hour ride to Sonoyta, which is an hour north of Puerto Peñasco, and arrives at 1:30 am. We would have to take a taxi to a hotel either in Sonoyta, (or Puerto Peñasco), then a shuttle to Puerto Peñasco. There doesn’t appear to be any rental cars that are one way. We have already explored flying, there’s no airport near Puerto Peñasco. Mexicali is 8 to 10 hours by bus, Phoenix is 4 hours by shuttle, etc. Oh, and we have at least 3 really big bags, 2 backpacks, a couple of small bags as well. One of the rental car places here in San Carlos said they could drive us one way for $550. We might need a bigger vehicle than the small car they quoted. That sounds like a lot of money, but compared to the bus trip, 6 hours one way, delivered to our truck. We would get there in one day, stay overnight in Puerto Peñasco (probably) get up the next day rested and drive back into the states. On the bus, the first day we would get to Sonoyta, spend the night in a hotel, shuttle to Puerto Peñasco, getting there early afternoon of the second day. Spend the night in Puerto Peñasco, get up and drive into the states. Cost comparison, driver about $600. Bus ($88*2‎ = ), taxi from the bus to the hotel $20, hotel in Sonoyta $100 (+/-) total about $300.

No pictures today.
