Up at 6 am, breakfast, bible reading, then off to get stuff done.
We got the price for the plate ($230 USD, Compared to $950 from Mack Yachr Service in Florida).
We are having the rigging inspected, as well as all the hardware. So far, we know that we need a new rubber boot and tape 2 stand off blocks (pulleys on a base that get mounted to the plate). No doubt there will be more.
We have been going back and forth on options regarding selling the boat (either here in San Carlos or Puerto Vallarta), or moving it to Tennessee, to do the great loop, which would require changing the mast. We got an estimate for moving the boat across Mexico of $29,000. So, I estimate moving the boat all the way to Tennessee and changing the mast etc. probably close to $100k. Boats are expensive.
That price sounds high, but we are selling our boat, and won’t come out ahead financially anyway. We are going to have at least Reneé’s mom (possibly my mom as well) living with us for the rest of their lives (her mom Bonita is 89, my mom Gayle is 92). We plan to buy a trawler for the great loop, and upgrade it to our satisfaction which means a bunch of money also.
At the end of the discussion, we agreed to sell it starting here in San Carlos.
I called Island Packet about the mast rubber boot, who referred me to Rig-Rite for mast parts. I had previously gotten the mast model number from Bill Bolin (he was a VP at IPY when our boat was built, and he will be our broker when we sell). So, when I called Rig-Rite they were able to help me find the right place on their website to find the pieces I need (the rubber piece is almost $700!) they also sell the plate we are having made (also about $700, and it’s cast aluminum. I am happy getting this piece made for about $230!).

This piece of plywood and the cinder block are covering the hole that is where the mast came out. Hopefully it will keep the rain out.
This sign was on my way walking back from Marina Seca to the air BnB
Just another sunset, possibly our last picture of one in Mexico…. boo hoo…
