Isla Isabel to Matachén, February 24

We got an early start this morning, up at 5:15, and underway by 6:15. We hoped to sail, but instead had virtually no wind, complete with fog. We used our fog horn function on the radio which blasts a horn over our loud speaker so that all those near us would know that we were there (nobody was near us). We saw a few whales. At one point I was below pumping the holding tank and Renee’ was watching the boat. A mother whale with her calve surfaced just in front of the boat and then again just to the side. VERY close!

We arrived at Matachén bay, and anchored about 1:00 pm, and took naps and read until happy hour and then dinner on deck.

The advantage of the LiFePO4 batteries, even at 95% state of charge, they are taking 151 amps charging current. We had the generator running to run the washing machine and that way the charger is running, and since there was not much wind, the engine alternator was going as well. This screenshot was taken at 7:30 am, so not much solar yet. We have seen a lot of those four little dots in the top right corner in the last few weeks. NO SERVICE!
Another sunrise

  1. Marjie got out “the book” to see our notes on Isabel. Get this, we arrived Feb 15 how about that! Oh, it was however 1996. In those days, we didn’t have our good Delta anchor and used a plow. I see we dropped it in 23 ft but didn’t get anchored until 32 ft. Kind of typical.

    1. We have two anchors, the primary is an 88 lb Rochna, with (I think 7/16) chain rode. We are very confident in its holding ability.
