Isla San Martin to Bahia San Quintin

We were boarded by the Mexican Navy, just a routine inspection, but they saw what they wanted (our paperwork) and walked around the deck then left.

We went ashore with the kayak, and took a hike. There were seals on the beach in the lagoon, and lots of jumping cactus. (Those little balls of spikes that seem to just appear in your shoes and on your legs).

We spoke with Joshua from the “Merry Lee” he and his wife Cozette and their dog Bodie are friends of the people we met the day before on the “Lost Pearl” they apparently missed on the communications, as they are waiting here for the Lost Pearl who should be down at Isla San Martin by evening. (They were waiting for them at the last anchorage.

In any case, we hiked and then left at about noon. We motored away from the island and then put up the mainsail and made a rather uneventful sail away. We made water for a couple of hours and Renee’ ran a load of clothes.

Like I said, a pretty uneventful day.

Tonight we are anchored at Bahia San Quintin. This is a very large bay, we are about 2 miles from the point and since the point sticks out south for quite a bit. It blocks the waves and swells, so it is pretty quite here tonight. It was a little weird coming in as we were in 30 feet of water for about a mile and a half before we were close enough to see the beach to consider where we wanted to drop the anchor. Even then we are still probably a half mile off the beach in 25 feet of water. I used the binoculars to see what I could ashore and we can see some buildings and I saw what looked like it might be a church (found out after looking at the internet that there is a mission here). We may visit it tomorrow when we go ashore.

The Mexican Navy asking “May we see your papers, please?”

This was the small boat, and as you can see, “they didn’t need no stinkin’ badges!”

A picture from the island that shows our boat and the bigger Navy ship in the background.

Some critters we found laying around on the beach. We also saw them in the lagoon and in the water around our boat.

Getting ready to take a short hike (VERY short). We found the trails were very rough, and had lots of jumping cactus. So, we decided to go back to the boat shortly after starting our hike.
