Make Me Laugh Again

Up at 7 or thereabouts. Today we will go to church and do some shopping then this evening we are headed over to Steve and Denny’s for happy hour.

This was a pretty good day. At church we heard the testimony of a man from Canada who started as a pig farmer (huge) and became a pastor. Very impressive to see the way that God worked in his life.

Later we went over to S/V Brendan, Steve and Denny’s boat for happy hour. We talked for an hour or two and then headed back to our boat for dinner and bed.

Reneé was up at about a bit before the alarm do deal with her bread, after breakfast we got underway, about 8:30 or so. We motored across while listening to a sermon from North Coast. When we were about 3 miles from land we dumped the holding tank. We are going to Paradise Village, and they pump out on Thursday, and we don’t have tank level indication. So, pump it out now so we don’t have to worry. We arrived at about noon. We had a bunch of help pulling in Steve and Denny were here, as well as a couple of security guys. We were tied up and shore power on A/C running by noon. So we had lunch and started looking at all the stuff we have to do this month.

We are in slip E15, which is sort of pie shaped (narrow at the end closest to the dock. We have asked for a different slip. This is better than what we were first offered (C1) which is in a corner near the front close to the mouth of the harbor, and gets the swell from the ocean, and collects all the trash that floats by etc. So, we are asking, the lady said she though she had something coming up but it would be later this month, as the people in it are waiting for a weather window.

We relaxed for a bit after washing the boat then headed up to the pool and dinner at happy hour. We spent about a half hour in the pool then found a couple of loungers on the beach and ordered our dinner. Two hamburgers two beers and two bottles of mineral water. With tip 500 pesos or $25. We will probably only have the drinks at happy hour next time.

On the way back we saw and helped Nora. She is a “fixture” here at the Paradise Village Marina. She lives alone on her sailboat and is 90+ and has a very short term memory. She knows which boat is hers and she has walkers staged to get her from her boat to the dock ramp, then at the top of the ramp she has a powered wheel chair and another couple of walkers. She met Reneé at the mall last season, but did not remember her a day or two later. Apparently her son has been to visit and asked her about moving to a “home” in the states. As far as physical exercise, she has to get from the dock up to the top of her boat (a center cockpit) there are 4 steps on the dock up to her deck, then two or three more to get over the lip and start down into the cockpit. Then she has to go down a ladder to get into the cabin of her boat. All pretty impressive for anybody.

We started a quiet morning and then went for a kayak ride after lunch. It was pretty windy, this afternoon. After we got back and put the kayak away, we had a beer (my first beer in 3 months!) Then worked on some investigation into dinghy stuff and life raft re-certification. On board along with the wind, we have about 4 jet skis running around the anchorage making wakes and causing the boat to move around. Reneé is working on making a banana bread with blueberries.

A pretty quiet day. We had breakfast did our reading and then…. Well we did contact the company about watching the boat for the summer, and started the investigation into getting the life raft re-certified. After dinner (Mahi-Mahi!) a card game then showers and a movie!
